The Optos Retinal Exam is performed using the Optomap Ultra Wide Field Retinal Imaging Device. The Optomap is a panoramic digital image of the retina produced by Optos scanning laser technology. The images are created by noninvasive, low intensity scanning lasers. There are no adverse effects from this procedure and it takes only seconds to perform.
The Optomap images provide a comprehensive photo of 80-85% of the inside of your eye. Some of the first signs of diseases such as stroke, diabetes, hypertension and even some cancers can be seen in your retina before you experience any symptoms. The Optomap can help detect these problems more quickly and easily. In the healthy eye the Optomap photos provide a great baseline for future reference.
At Sachem Eye Care we never take the gift of sight for granted and feel this simple yet effective exam should be part of your yearly eye examination.
